[Round 4 @ Golden Gardens Bath House, 2005]
Round 84, May 8th, 2012
As the math guys tell me… we’re celebrating 7 years of collaborative music, slam poetry, and visual arts this month. I want to send out a huge thank you to everyone who’s supported this amazing event, including all the incredibly brave artists who take the leap and collaborate onstage together in front of you the amazingly respectful audience.
Also thanks to the press/writers who’ve helped try to explain what this is (usually you just gotta see it in person though!), and of course to our faithful volunteers – especially Jonas G who does live sound and mixes our podcast, Joshua Sherman who records the shows with such quality, Eratosthenes who captures many videos/photos in HD clarity, and Juliann Itter for creating unique show posters every month since about Round 32 I think. Please support them too!
I am humbled to look back and see 7 years of great audience support/participation and artist creativity that have made this show what it is today. And to think this started as basically a co-op dinner to get artists together each month to support each other!
It’s such an honor to be able to curate this event and to see it growing and thriving in Seattle and other cities with a totally different show every month. And on a Tuesday at that! Thank you all. Thank you.
cheers,
-Nathan Marion, Founder

Well look at that, The Round landed on Valentines Day finally! In the early years, we celebrated “Anti-Valentines” day, meaning… let’s focus on music & arts & real relationships… not so much on the consumerist madness. But, that said… for this show you can expect some fancy tables for you and your date including special package deals with a bottle of good Washington wine and local dessert included, very ‘romantic’ (ie. good!) music, poetry, and live painting. But wait, this isn’t a couples only show! As with every Round, everyone is welcome and you can even book a table (for 2-4) for your party people, no significant others required! We’ve heard of folks meeting at The Round, and then getting married at the Abbey a year later… so who knows! :-p

Happy Winter everyone! It must be official, because here in Seattle we now have a (temporary) ice rink*! Crazy. Ok, it’s only 40 degrees out, and even a bit sunny today… but we’re starting to feel more in the Holiday spirit around here. The Holiday Round this past Sunday at the Triple Door was an absolutely beautiful evening of local artists collaborating onstage to bring us some Holiday/Winter originals and old Christmas songs too.
Looking back to 2009 and 2010 Holiday shows, we have some music for you! Even your mom & grandmother might like these songs, so download them now and make that holiday mixtape before the snow hits… ok, well no rush. Cheers!
DOWNLOAD SONGS via Bandcamp
Our favorites: Damien Jurado‘s totally new song for Round 55 at the Triple Door, John Van Deusen (The Lonely Forest) sings “We Three Kings”, Aaron Sprinkle‘s rendition of “Christmas (Baby Please Come Home)”, and Sean Nelson (Harvey Danger) sings his Seattle specific “Sometimes You Have to work on Christmas”, Goldfinch brings everyone in on “Auld Lang Syne” featuring Steve Norman on pedal steel and Kristian Swearingen improvising on violin, plus many more!
*oops, apparently it sucks, is expensive, and isn’t real ice. lame! go to Seattle Center!
